How To Find A Good Web Developer - Part 1

You are getting ready to put your company ‘out there’. Or you already have a web site and it needs to be redone. This post will give you some advice on how to find the right person for the job, an individual who is going to do the complete job, either by themselves or as part of a group, from start to finish.

I’m referring to getting help that goes beyond just design. It means finding someone who can help you with writing copy. They need to be able to help plan the site layout. If you need, they can also help with getting you a domain, email accounts and other technical items you want help with. This is about finding someone who can handle the whole package.

So what do you look for:

* Experience – Of course you need someone who is familiar with XML, CSS, HTML, PHL and the rest of the alphabet. Ask for a brochure or listing of sites they’ve already done. How long have they been doing this type of work? Interview the individual in person if you can. Get a feeling for their level of expertise. Take time to get to know the person because if you hire them, you’ll be spending a lot of time together.

* Customer Service – This is very important. Are your telephone calls and e-mails being returned in a timely fashion? Or are they too busy to stay in touch? Will that mean the schedule for the development of your site will fall behind. Get a list of references and call them. As previous customers specifically if they were happy with the customer service.

* You want ORIGINAL! You want a 100% original web site with 100% original graphics. No template site for you. Carefully look at the sites already created by your prospective web designer. Do they all have something in common or do they all look unique?

Hope you have found this helpful. Part 2, the final part, will be posted soon.
