(Part 1 is the post before this.)
Got up this morning to find I had an email from DomainByProxy. I have to admit I am VERY impressed with the speed of their customer service.
Here are the instructions I received for retrieving my account information:
Thank you for contacting Online Support. The registrar for your domain would be Go Daddy. If you do not have the login for your account, please use the following steps to retrieve and reset it:
• Go to https://www.domainsbyproxy.com
• Click the 'My Account' link on the upper left hand side of the page
• Click the 'Forgot your password' link next to the password box
- If you do not know your customer number, click the link labeled 'Retrieve Customer Number'
- You will then be asked to enter one of your privately registered domains, and a security code, and the customer number will be emailed to the address listed for the customer account in our system.
- If you have the customer number, and wish to retrieve your password hint, click the link labeled 'Retrieve Password Hint'
- You will then be asked to enter your customer number or login name, the exact street address listed for your account, and the security code, and the password hint for your account will be displayed, to help you remember your password.
- If you have your customer number and you need to reset your password, click the link labeled 'Reset Password'
1. Enter your Customer Number.
2. Enter the security access code by retyping the graphic number displayed in the box above the entry field. This is a protection against computer attacks on our password reset system.
3. Click the Continue, and Continue again on the next page.
5. After you receive the email containing the authorization code you may reset your password. NOTE: The authorization code received in this email is only valid for one reset and only for two hours from the time it was sent out. If the authorization code expires or if you use it and the reset fails for some reason, you must obtain a new authorization code email in order to attempt the password reset again.
a. Enter your Customer Number.
Note: The Authorization Code from the email message automatically populates in the Auth Code field.
b. Enter and confirm a new password and then enter a Password Hint.
c. Click Continue to reset your password.
d. The password for the account is reset to the specified password. You may return to the Log In page and attempt to log in to the account.
So I followed the explicit instructions carefully and guess what?
I GOT IN!
So I click on My Domains and, to my surprise, ONLY this site shows up. Then it dawns on me. I've probably got a different Customer Number for each of my sites.
What a pain! But the fact is the instructions are clear and work exactly as I would expect they should. I retrieved the account information for my travel blog also and just have to go through the routine for my other sites.
Now I have to figure out how to get my Go Daddy account information. Where I suspect I'll have a different one for each site also. Guess what I'll be doing today!
